If he is legitimately doing it JUST to get his way, keep an eye on him to make sure he isn’t endangering himself, but otherwise don’t give in and don’t acknowledge it. Once he realizes that it’s not working he will stop doing it. But at 1 year old, I question if this is a “get my way” action, instead of a teething (one year molars) and just hitting gag reflex with fingers/toys/teething cookies that he is chewing on.
